Anu Chhabra

My name is Anu Chhabra, and London has been my home for the past 18 years. Originally from Mysore, India, I grew up in a family deeply rooted in the restaurant business. My grandfather, who migrated from U.P. (Aligarh) to Mysore, established thriving restaurants that became a testament to our rich culinary heritage. His passion for quality and authenticity left an indelible mark on me—one that I carry forward with immense pride.
Life in London has been a beautiful journey. I’ve been fortunate to build a loving home with my amazing husband, and together, we’re raising a teenage son who never fails to keep us on our toes. I embrace life with a fun-loving spirit and a hearty laugh. Whether it’s catching up with old friends or making new ones, I’m always in my element when I’m around people.
Travelling is a true passion of mine, and I’m constantly eager to discover new places and experiences. As a foodie, I love trying different cuisines, though my heart always brings me back to Indian food, no matter the time of day. When I’m not out exploring or working, you’ll often find me unwinding with a Bollywood movie or cooking up something delicious while enjoying some good music. I’m also a gadget enthusiast, always on the lookout for the latest in the tech world. And yes, I indulge in playing Royal Match—my little stress buster!
While much of my time in London has been devoted to creating a warm and nurturing home, I’ve also worked in various office administration roles. However, I always felt a pull towards something more meaningful—a dream to create something of my own that would bring me true fulfilment.
Recently, I embarked on an exciting new venture to share something very dear to me: authentic, homemade ghee. This isn’t just about creating a product; it’s about preserving a legacy that began in Mysore, India, and sharing it with the world. The recipe I use is one I’ve lovingly crafted for years, first for my family and friends, and now, for you. The joy it brings has been nothing short of incredible. The rich aroma, pure ingredients, and the love that goes into every jar make it truly special.

What makes Ghee different than Butter?
Ghee differs from regular butter in that it has been clarified to remove water and milk solids, leaving behind pure butterfat. This process gives ghee a higher smoke point, longer shelf life, and richer flavor compared to regular butter.
How is Ghee traditionally made?
Traditional ghee is made by simmering unsalted butter or cream from cow's milk until the water evaporates and the milk solids separate and settle at the bottom. The clear, golden liquid (ghee) is then strained to remove the milk solids. This process may also involve hand-churning to enhance the flavour and texture.
Can Ghee be used for cooking or baking?
Yes, ghee is excellent for cooking and baking due to its high smoke point of around 485°F (252°C). It can be used for frying, sautéing, roasting, and baking, adding a rich, nutty flavor to dishes, and serving as a substitute for butter or oil.
How should Ghee be stored?
Ghee should be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dark place. It can be kept at room temperature for up to three months and in the refrigerator for up to a year. Always use a clean, dry spoon to avoid contamination.
What are the health benefits of Ghee?
Ghee is rich in healthy fats, vitamins A, D, E, and K, and butyrate, a fatty acid beneficial for gut health. It supports digestion, enhances immune function, provides anti-inflammatory properties, and promotes healthy skin and eyes. Additionally, ghee can be helpful for weight management when used in moderation.
Is Ghee keto-friendly?
Yes, ghee is keto-friendly. It is high in healthy fats and contains no carbohydrates, making it a perfect addition to a ketogenic diet. Ghee can be used for cooking or added to beverages like coffee for an energy boost.
What role does Ghee play in Ayurveda?
In Ayurveda, ghee is considered a powerful healing food. It is believed to balance the body’s doshas, enhance digestion and absorption, improve mental clarity, and nourish the body and mind. Ghee is often used as a carrier for medicinal herbs, enhancing their potency and effectiveness.
What is the nutritional profile of Ghee?
Ghee is rich in healthy fats, including saturated and monounsaturated fats, which provide a concentrated source of energy. It is also abundant in fat-soluble vitamins such as A, D, E, and K, which are essential for various bodily functions including vision, immunity, skin health, and bone strength. Additionally, ghee contains conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and butyrate, both of which have been linked to anti-inflammatory and digestive health benefits.
How does Ghee aid in digestion?
Ghee contains butyrate, a short-chain fatty acid that supports gut health by nourishing the cells lining the intestines. It helps reduce inflammation, improve nutrient absorption, and promote regular bowel movements, making it beneficial for digestion.
What is the best way to incorporate Ghee into a daily diet?
Ghee can be easily incorporated into your daily diet by using it as a cooking medium. Replace regular butter or oil with ghee when frying, sautéing, or roasting vegetables and meats. Add a spoonful to your morning coffee or tea for a rich, creamy texture and sustained energy. Ghee can also be spread on toast, drizzled over popcorn, or stirred into soups and stews to enhance flavor and nutritional content.
