Anu Chhabra | My Ghee Journey

Our Story
From Our Family Kitchen to Yours
Every jar of Just Ghee tells a story, a story of family, tradition, cherished memories and a passion that has been passed down through generations.
My name is Anu Chhabra, founder of Just Ghee, and although London has been my home for the past 18 years, my journey with food began much earlier in the beautiful city of Mysore, India. Food has always been at the heart of my family. In 1936, my grandfather opened a restaurant called Bombay Indra Bhavan in Mysore, which quickly became known for its authentic flavours and warm hospitality. Growing up in a family where cooking was a way of bringing people together taught me something that has stayed with me throughout my life, good food isn't just about ingredients, it's about care, patience and the memories created around the table.
When I moved to the UK, I brought those memories with me. Like many people living away from home, I searched for a ghee that reminded me of the one I had grown up with, one with that rich aroma, beautiful golden colour and unmistakable flavour that filled our family kitchen. But I never quite found it. Some lacked flavour, others lacked aroma, and many simply didn't taste like the ghee I remembered. So I stopped searching and began making it myself.
What started as a small personal project in my own kitchen soon became something much bigger. Friends and family kept asking for more and encouraged me to share it with others, and before I knew it, Just Ghee was born. Today, every jar is still handcrafted in small batches using carefully selected British butter, with nothing rushed because I believe great ghee deserves time and attention.
One of my favourite moments isn't making the ghee, but watching someone taste it for the very first time. At food festivals and community events, I love offering people a small spoonful to try. There's always a little pause, then their eyebrows lift, followed by a smile, and many come back for another taste before choosing a jar to take home. Those moments remind me why I started this journey.
Over the years, what began with one traditional recipe has grown into a collection of unique handcrafted flavours. Our award-winning Original Grass-Fed Ghee and Nutty Bengali Ghee remain customer favourites, both proudly awarded 2 Stars at the Great Taste Awards in 2025. Alongside them are our Organic Ghee, Cultured Ghee and A2 Cultured Ghee, each crafted with the same commitment to quality and authenticity.
I also love creating flavours that bring something a little different to everyday cooking. From Chilli Garlic and Saffron to Herbs de Provence and Moringa & Curry Leaves, each one has been carefully developed to complement real home cooking rather than overpower it. Our newest addition, Spring Onion & Garlic Ghee, has already received an incredible response. Inspired by two simple ingredients found in almost every kitchen, it combines fresh spring onions and garlic with our handcrafted grass-fed ghee to create a rich, savoury flavour that's wonderfully versatile. Seeing customers embrace it so quickly, with more than 25 jars sold across just two community events, has been incredibly rewarding.
For me, Just Ghee has never been about creating the biggest range or producing the highest volume, it's about creating the very best ghee I possibly can. Every batch is made with the same care and attention that I would give if I were making it for my own family. Whether you're spreading it on warm toast, finishing a curry, roasting vegetables or simply enjoying its incredible aroma, I hope our ghee becomes part of your own family traditions too.
To everyone who has supported Just Ghee, whether you've ordered one jar or become one of our wonderful returning customers, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your support allows me to continue doing what I truly love. I don't just make ghee, I make the kind of ghee I'm proud to serve to my own family.
If we ever meet at one of our events, don't be surprised if I hand you a spoon before I hand you a jar.
I truly believe the best way to understand Just Ghee is simply to taste it.
Thank you for being part of our journey.
Warm regards,
Anu Chhabra
